 School Courses

Ingleborough Hall is run as part of the City of Bradford's education services and has been providing residential outdoor experiences to school children and students for over 30 years.

Ideally placed within the Yorkshire Dales National Park the Centre can offer:

  • Adventurous activitiesCaving suited to all year groups and all abilities (including staff!) from introductory 'taster' experiences for young novices to progressive skills training for the more advanced. Caving, rock climbing, gorge scrambling, mountain walking, orienteering and mountain biking provide the framework for the development of personal qualities and group interdependence through challenge and adventure.

  • Curriculum based studies. The blend of glaciated valleys and gritstone capped limestone hills produces a unique area of glacio-karst well suited to many aspects of geographical and botanical field study, whilst the traditional Dales village of Clapham offers a range of study projects from history through to tourism and rural-urban contrast. Opportunities abound for Primary school National Curriculum projects in many core and foundation subjects, in addition to Secondary school and College geography and more advanced geological study.

  • Residential experiences, with tailor made programmes of activities and study, in a listed 19th century Country House complete with 8 acres of private grounds. Fully catered, with quiet rooms, study rooms and small dormitories, Ingleborough Hall provides an ideal base for developing social skills and 'citizenship' in line with the National Curriculum.

The Centre has a small team of dedicated instructors with a wealth of experience teaching in the outdoor environment. Most are Qualified Teachers and all are professionally qualified in the relevant outdoor activities. Ingleborough Hall is licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority to provide caving, rock climbing and mountain activities, including gorge scrambling, to the under 18s.

Programmes are individually designed in partnership with visiting groups. They will often include a mixture of instructor led adventurous activities and teacher led curriculum based sessions, including orienteering, village and stream / river studies, and local walks utilising the Centre's photo trails and accompanying teachers notes.

Ingleborough Hall is also available to music groups, orchestras and others requiring residential facilities for rehearsal or concentrated study in relaxing surroundings. The nearby nature trail and show cave can then provide a welcome interlude.

In addition to residential courses the Centre can provide Day Activities for educational groups and others.

Please contact Ingleborough Hall to discuss requirements, dates and prices, or to arrange a preliminary visit.
