 Norber Phototrail

Information

This Phototrail takes you along a circular route from Clapham to Austwick via the Norber Erratics, and then back to Clapham. The weather can play a major part in the enjoyment of the walk; the area around Robin Proctor's Scar and the Erratics is exposed and can very unpleasant on a wet and windy day, especially during the Winter months. There are few sites for shelter on a wet day but Austwick does have a most splendid bus shelter which has provided welcome relief on many occasions. However it must be remembered that it is primarily for the use of the local residents.

The circular distance is about 7.5 kilometres, with a total ascent of 150 metres. Although the route can be done in half a day it may well be that groups will want to take longer, especially if some of the areas of interest are to be explored and extended as part of school curricular work. Boots are recommended, and waterproofs, hat, gloves and spare clothing carried if not worn. Mobile phones do work in the area (all major networks) and you will never be more than five or ten minutes away from an accessible roadhead.

There is a shop in Austwick but the Phototrail does not quite go past it and a small diversion will have to be taken. There is also a toilet in the village hall yard next to the shop; the only one on the whole circuit.
